Experience and Expertise
Anthony Whetzel is currently a creative director and business owner, and has been a design professional since 1987. After graduating from University of Florida’s School of Graphic Design, he was hired by a start-up company called Prodigy, one of the first consumer subscriber-based online services. He helped the company and its national advertising division build online advertising sites, banner ads and animated promotions. He helped launch and led an internal creative boutique called Look Creative. He advanced to a Senior Artist position at Prodigy and contributed numerous revenue-enhancing creative strategies that boosted ad sales and enabled Prodigy to attract more Fortune 500 clients. He worked on online accounts for IBM PCs and Software, United Airlines, Anderson Windows, Audi, Oldsmobile, Hayes Modems, and many others.
Anthony left Prodigy in 1993 and joined PR Newswire, a corporate press release and investor relations news and information distribution company, with offices in New York City and Jersey City. He built a graphics department from the ground up, supervised the purchase and installation of Macs and Windows systems, hired staff and outside vendors for support, designed promotional and sales materials, and built fax-on-demand applications for PR Newswire’s corporate subscribers.
In 1994 he embarked on an entrepreneurial path with a business partner to form a NYC-based company that developed a method for fusing digital imagery to ceramic tile. The company would later become Imagine Tile. In the start-up stages of Imagine Tile, Anthony spear-headed technical and production research and development, vendor/supplier relations, and took charge of Imagine Tile’s marketing efforts. In the ensuing months, numerous trade publications, including Metropolis, found Imagine Tile a fascinating concept and featured the company in the January/February 1996 issue. Anthony left Imagine Tile several months later to pursue a freelance art director/graphic design career.
In 1996 Anthony established his own design consultancy that provided a wide range of creative services to businesses such as The Mining Company (which became About.com), Social Circles/Urban Outings, JPMorganChase, Earthweb, HandTrade Wireless, FXotica.com, Tanical Therapeutics, Jeffrey Beers Architects, Itzamna Medical Center, Oneteam Sportswear and many others.
In the summer of 2000, Anthony teamed up with creative director/copywriter Jim Heathman and formed O2 Agency. He leads all projects on the design side, as well as manages outside print and web production vendors. O2 Agency provides creative services primarily to the magazine and book publishing industry. O2 Agency has worked with Forbes, TV Guide, ESPN the Magazine, Condé Nast Publications, Dow Jones, Hearst Magazines, Hachette Filipacci Media, Primedia Magazines, This Old House, and many small businesses for a variety creative work.
Anthony resides in Manhattan with his wife Alita. He's an avid skier, scuba diver, traveler and organic foodie. He fritters away any additional spare time by being beaten by Scrabble® on his iPhone, and reading books on his iPad.
